Newton Stewart Sub-Aqua Club is located in Dumfries & Galloway in the South West of Scotland.

The Club usually organises a try dive and Ocean Diver Course at the start of each year.  This is held at the Merrick Leisure Centre in Newton Stewart from February to April.  Theory lessons are an integral part of the Ocean Diver Course and are organised to go along with the practical lessons often at the Wigtown Bay Sailing Club.  We quite often have a get together in the Steampacket on the harbour front afterwards.

For the rest of the year the Club organises dives, training and social events….a popular one being a beach barbeque in the summer!

The Club has usually got a steady membership of about 45.  We run a diver training programme affiliated to the British Sub-Aqua Club. We welcome new members, anyone from people who have never dived before to Advanced divers.

The Club owns two 6.5m RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boats), The Darren Kelly and Hammerhead, which we have recently re-furbished.  In 2021 we bought two new breathing air compressors, with help from the Kilgallioch Fund, and fills are available free to all members and to visiting divers (at a small charge). The compressors are located in the Wigtown Bay Sailing Club at the Isle of Whithorn, where our boats are moored. Visiting divers are also welcome to come diving with us with a contribution towards the fuel used by our RIB – just contact us to find out more.

The club has been involved with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) and Seasearch for a few years now. Members who have been on an introductory marine life identification course can help the MCS to study and record the UK’s underwater environment. Click on the images to find out more.

Many thanks to Scottish Natural Heritage and the Solway Firth Partnership for grants and equipment to help with the Club’s Seasearch projects.
